Expositie Roermond 2025

Sinds gisteren is in Galerie RRMND in Roermond de grote overzichtstentoonstelling Meesters van het Realisme geopend. Tot en met 9 november zijn er 54 schilderijen van 23 toonaangevende realistische kunstenaars uit Nederland te zien.

Ik ben trots dat mijn werken Blik van Gloed en The Silent Mind deel uitmaken van deze bijzondere expositie. Hieronder een foto van de presentatie van mijn werk in de galerie.

Galerie RRMND is gelegen op het voormalige Philips-terrein ‘Weerstand’ en specialiseert zich in hedendaagse kunst. Kunstliefhebbers zijn van harte welkom om de tentoonstelling te bezoeken.

Bastiaen Vries selected for Almenara Art Prize online exhibition

The painting Close Presence by Bastiaen Vries has been selected for the online exhibition of the Almenara Art Prize 2025. This year, the international competition received more than 3,000 submissions from around the world. Only fifty works were chosen for the physical exhibition in Córdoba (Spain). Although Close Presence was not selected for this physical show, it is featured in the official online exhibition.

The Almenara Art Prize is an international painting competition offering more than $22,000 in awards. Its mission is to promote artists and connect them with art lovers, collectors, galleries, and other key figures in the art world. Organized by the non-profit Almenara initiative, the prize supports artists by showcasing their work through exhibitions, events, and collaborations with art organizations.

Filmmaker Sabine June Haitsma created this short film on behalf of Temporary Palaces. The video offers a personal look into my studio — the place where I paint, create my portraits, and guide others in painting portraits in oil.

You’ll also see Franco, who has been involved from the very beginning in shaping this space and continues to play an important role in its upkeep.

In February 2025, the local newspaper of the Staatsliedenbuurt in Westerpark, Amsterdam, published an article about my atelier Bastiaen.Art

The article highlights the atelier space, my portrait paintings, sources of inspiration, workshops, my work for the foundation Marline Fritzius, and my participation in the TV contest Sterren op het Doek, where I had the honor of painting Rob Kemps—who ultimately chose my portrait to take home.

Verrassing van beeldend kunstenaar Bas Vries

“Begeleidend kunstenaar Bas Vries had een verrassing voor de deelnemers van de dinsdagochtend groep in het Marline Fritzius atelier in Amsterdam. Hij had iedereen naar zijn nieuwe atelier in West gevraagd, waar hij onthulde dat hij van alle deelnemers – zonder dat ze het wisten – een prachtig portret had geschilderd! Een fantastische December Surprise voor iedereen. Alle deelnemers waren dan ook super blij met hun prachtige schilderijen.

De geportretteerden moeten wel nog even geduld hebben, de portretten zijn in olieverf gemaakt en moeten dus nog goed drogen voordat ze mee naar huis mogen!😅”

An article has been published in the Westkrant about the opening of my new studio at Van der Hoopstraat 39 in the Staatsliedenbuurt.

Portretschilder Bastiaen Vries opent atelier in Staatsliedenbuurt 

After spending time in De Pijp, I’ve decided to move my studio closer to home and create a creative meeting place for the neighborhood.

At Atelier Bastiaen.art, I offer portrait painting workshops in oil paint, where local residents and visitors can learn about portrait art in an accessible way. My focus is on capturing not just the outward appearance, but the inner strength and emotions of the subject.

‘Oil Wrestlers’ exhibited at the Chianciano Biennale

I’m excited to share that my painting Oil Wrestlers was recently exhibited at the Chianciano Biennale in Italy, which took place from August 3rd to 18th. It was an incredible experience to have my work showcased among such talented international artists at this prestigious event.

Oil Wrestlers is a piece that delves into the strength and intensity of this traditional sport. The male’s skin glistening caused by oil an sweat inspired me as well as the strength emanated in the physical fight of this sport. The real challenge in painting has been to render the wrestlers’ translucent skin starting from a very dark color base. The painting is inspired b Thomas Wyness’s photo.

Having it displayed in Italy was a true highlight, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.

I’m excited to share that my studio has moved from De Pijp to Westerpark.

The new space offers more room and plenty of natural light, perfect for creating new work.

I recently became a member of the ‘Masters of Realism’, a select group of contemporary Dutch artists who “excel in the highest levels of realistic painting”.

“This membership is reserved for only the top 250 Dutch fine painters, following a rigorous selection process by an expert committee.

Age, education, and other personal aspects are not considered; the focus is on the artistic work itself.

The Masters demonstrate their expertise, skills, and experience in their works, which are showcased in the Gallery.”

The initiatives ‘Masters of Realism’ and ‘Masters of Realism’ are carried out by De Kunst Collega’s BV.
